fall semester and the holidays.
It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. Project after project, there was no time for my personal blog. So sorry to neglet you Veggie With a Vision, but I am back in action. I don’t know about anyone else, but this holiday season was one of my most tiring yet. My mom is always telling me the holidays are draining, but as a little kid, I thought she was crazy. I guess I’m not a little kid anymore. The holidays wipe me out. It could be my constant eagerness to make sure everyone is in the spirit; not in a cheerleader type of way, but by spreading cheer through delicious food, drinks, sharing gifts, sending beautiful cards, a few holiday jingles, and of course giving gifts! This year I tried to shop only local (inspired by my friend Jenn) because I am a mom and pop shop kind of girl, and would much rather see the Peace and Justice Store survive this recession than Macy’s. (Confession: I did buy ONE thing at Pottery Barn for my brother. He just had to have this monogrammed leather change and cuff link holder.)
I took the Vermonter home from Essex Junction, VT (1o minutes from Burlington) to Stamford, CT. This was after a beautiful 4-day snow storm we had in Vermont. As the train pulled up to the station, after a 2 hour delay due to snow on the tracks, the conducter yelled “All aboard the Polar Express!” As I walked in between cars, I was walking into a tunnel of snow and ice. That’s when I realized if there really were a Polar Express, this would be it. For those interested, it was an 8.5 hour drive, through the woods and over creeks; it was truly enchanting, and a great chance to catch up on a good book. (Marley & Me, in my case)

I have done a lot of cooking and can’t wait to post pictures and recipes. Those are coming soon. My parents gave me the Candle Cafe cookbook which motivates me to kick it up a notch. Their recipes are so tasty, but end up costing you more money due to unique ingredients. So far I have made their Eggplant Curry (yum) and their Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies (best I have ever made). I hope to cook more than half of their recipes in the year of 2009.

Towards the end of the semester I logged a lot of hours on my little MacBook working on design projects. One of them was an advertisement, only using type, for my favorite font, Bodoni. Bodoni, the font and the creater, have a repution for being extremely prestigous and precise. This is a beautiful typeface; it’s gerastic contrast between thick and thin lines is what makes it dazzle. Here is the ad I designed:
I would love to go on about my design projects, but that would get boring! I will post more along the way. Coming next are a handful of delicious recipes! Great for New Years!
